Senior Accountant, Income Properties

Responsible for the day-to-day accounting and reporting operations for all Income Producing Properties (IPP) managed by Property Management located in BC and Alberta and other location.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for monthly reporting purposes
  • Maintain detailed general ledger entries
  • Maintain and monitor monthly expense accruals, balance sheet review and analysis
  • Review budget variance analysis and report any significant variances to the Accounting Manager, Income Properties 
  • Provide supplemental reports as requested by internal and external clients, for example; the IPP Schedule and all year end reports.  I work with Corporate Accounting to make sure the reports meet their reporting needs.
  • Supervise and assist in preparation of CAM reconciliations and Property Tax reconciliations.  Create either a charge or refund to the tenants.
  • Calculate management fees in accordance with Property Management Agreements
  • Process management fees monthly
  • Prepare, review and audit of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, income and balance sheet statements
  • Monitor and review accounts receivable charges
  • Review and approve accounts payable invoices
  • Responsible for various accounting projects as needed
  • Review and assure accuracy of rent roles
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis between budget and actual results
  • Notify Accounting Manager, Income Properties of issues and irregularities in reports, and invoices.  Help identify problems and formulate solutions.
  • Reconcile tenant accounts when they move out
  • Work with Accounting Manager and Property Manager on budget, analysis & forecasting for all industrial properties
  • Set-up and maintain all property and leases files in Timberline software.
  • Review tenant and/or property reports for accuracy
  • Work with Director Leasing, Property Management by providing reports and information on tenant’s accounts, leases and properties
  • Maintain accurate records, analysis and ensure payment of all property taxes and assessments
  • Maintain accurate records and analysis of Property Insurance and notify the insurance provider of changes to property insurance.
  • Rebill insurance from Beedie Property Management LP to related parties
  • Liaison with utility companies regarding tenant move-in/out
  • Rebill tenant utilities on shared meters
  • Provide information as required to Operations Managers
  • Set-up, tracking, closing and invoicing of Small Jobs for construction work done at properties.  

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Working towards 3rd or 4th year accounting designation preferred but not required.
  • 5 years of experience in a Property Management or Real Estate environment
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Solid computer skills, Timberline, Timberscan, CRM, Sharepoint, Excel and MS Office
  • Organized, who is attentive to detail and able to work independently
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to contribute effectively within a team environment
